CYBERSECURITY
Telecommunications infrastructure and services are fundamental to Liberia’s digital ecosystem, playing a crucial role in enabling communications services and access to the suite of digital technologies many Liberians use to transact, socialize, learn, and access government services. Hence, licensed telecommunications networks on which private, public and consumer ICT services rely constitute a critical infrastructure whose security and reliability are of national interest and thus a subject of public policy action.
As most services go digital and telecommunications backbone infrastructure become increasingly indispensable to the society, they create both the incentive and vulnerability for cybercrime. Realizing this, the current ICT Policy requires action on the part of key public sector stakeholders to secure Liberia’s cyberspace by putting in place the legal framework to criminalize cybercrime and protect data privacy, and appropriate technical mechanisms to secure critical telecommunications infrastructure and ICT services, and provide support for incident reporting and recovery.
The LTA in collaboration with key public sector stakeholders has supported or plans to undertake the following initiatives aimed delivering on the ICT Policy requirements:
A draft National Cybersecurity Strategy is ready for consultation.
Cybercrime Bill is before parliament for ratification.
