African Union (AU) Global Dialogue on AI 2.0 in Cairo, Egypt: Moving from Strategy to Implementation
Cairo, Egypt – The OECD-African Union Global Dialogue on Artificial Intelligence (AI) 2.0 recently concluded in Cairo, Egypt, focusing on the theme “From Strategy to Implementation.”
The conference, held from November 19-21, 2024, brought together policymakers, industry leaders, and experts from across Africa and beyond to discuss the critical next steps in leveraging AI for the continent’s development. Attendees included delegates from the OECD, the African Union, the European Community, the United Kingdom, the US State Department, and other international partners.
Liberia was represented by the Liberia Telecommunication Authority (LTA) through Acting Commissioner Angela Cassell Bush, Department of International Gateway Services (IGS), accompanied by Mr. Shadrick G. Tougbay, Anti-Fraud Enforcement Officer of the same department headed by Commissioner Bush.
One of the highlights of the conference was the insightful contributions from Acting Commissioner Angela Cassell Bush. She shared valuable perspectives on the importance of translating AI strategies into tangible actions that drive positive change in Africa.
The dialogue emphasized the need for collaborative efforts between the public and private sectors to harness the full potential of AI in addressing key challenges facing the continent. Participants explored innovative approaches to AI governance, ethical considerations, and capacity building to ensure that Africa remains at the forefront of the global AI landscape.
During the conference, Acting Commissioner Bush highlighted Liberia’s commitment to participating in the implementation of AI across the African continent. She emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts in ensuring that no country, especially developing nations like Liberia, is left behind in the AI revolution.
Acknowledging the leadership shown by countries like Egypt and others in advancing AI initiatives, Commissioner Bush called upon the OECD, African Union, European Union, United States, and other supporting partners to provide assistance and support to Liberia and other developing nations. She stressed the significance of collective support and collaboration to bridge the gap and ensure that all countries can benefit from the opportunities presented by AI implementation.
In her remarks, Commissioner Bush emphasized the need for inclusive strategies that empower all nations to leverage AI for sustainable development, economic growth, and social progress. She highlighted the potential for AI to drive innovation, enhance efficiency, and address pressing challenges across various sectors in Liberia and other developing countries.
